product display design and fabrication

Project design and fabrication for Advanced Digital Fabrication Course at Taubman College of Architecture and Planning.

2016

Design, MasterCam, and Fabrication by Kristen Gandy

This design features slight topographical changes across the surface of a product display stand. Each curvature on the surface is designed for the specific products selected for display.

The fabrication method optimized on the use of the least complex milling and fabrication for a very complex T-Spline surface.

The whole display was made from one piece of birch plywood using flip milling on a 3 axis CNC mill, rather than using a 5 axis or 7 axis to accomplish the production. The MasterCam file and the chosen fabrication technique reduced production time from a projected time of 3 hours to a completion time of 40 minutes.
